Surgical Treatments

Hair transplant (FUE)

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is a type of hair transplant surgery in which individual follicular units are extracted from the donor area (the back and the sides of patient’s scalp). Donor area hairs are resistant to the hormone DHT that cause hair loss. These extracted grafts are then implanted on to areas of hair thinning or baldness.

FUE technique is considered painless once adequate anaesthetic and analgesia is used.

 Pre-operative assessment and consultation:

Harley Street Hair and Skin Care Clinics have skilled and experienced hair loss treatment experts who are available over the phone and online, for a free no obligation consultation. Once the pictures of the area of your hair loss sent to us, our hair experts review your pictures and then contact you to inform of their opinion on the quality and density of your donor area and the number of grafts required to cover your area of hair loss in one session without causing damage, scarring and over harvesting. A face to face or online consultation with the hair transplant surgeon before the procedure is also an essential part of our policy.

Procedure day:

On the day of the procedure the surgeon takes patient consent, explains the procedure again and draws the front hair line. We know the importance of a good quality hairline to achieve the most natural look. In order to fulfil the customer’s desire to get natural looking healthy hair, we believe in and practically involve all of our patients throughout all the stages of Hair Transplant. The patient’s hair is then partly shaven or fully shaven at the donor and recipient area depending on the situation of your hair loss and your personal preference if clinically permissible.

 Stage 1: Graft Extraction:

In this stage, the follicles are extracted from the donor area, after the administration of local anaesthetic. The patient lies face down on a special bed for graft removal. This stage takes 2- 3 hours depending on the number of required grafts. The quality and number of extracted hair follicles is dependent on the density of the donor area.

The better the donor area, the higher the number of follicles would be extracted.

Stage 2: Recipient area Incisions (opening the channel lines):

This is the second stage of Hair Transplant procedure in which patient lies on their back, it usually takes 2 to 2.5 hrs to complete. Recipient area is cleaned with an antiseptic and then with a skin disinfectant, a local anaesthetic is then administered. Patients only feel the initial sting during the administering of the local anaesthetic which only lasts for few seconds. Once the recipient area is adequately anaesthetised patients usually don’t feel any pain while the incisions are being made, they usually watch their favourite TV program, listen to their choice of music or some of our patient even snooze during this stage.

 Stage 3: Graft implantation:

This stage is the last stage of hair transplant procedure. Patient lies on their back during this period. It usually takes approximately 2.5 to 3.5 hours. During this stage the hair follicles are placed into the previously created channels / pockets.

After completion of follicle implantation, a thorough examination and inspection of the entire area is carried out from the front line to the back after which the head is washed and cleaned with sterile solution and a sterile bandage is applied to the back of scalp / donor area.

Discharging from the clinic:

After the completion of the hair transplant procedure, surgeon explains to the patient about the aftercare instructions and handover the aftercare pack. Patients can then return to their place of residence provided they are not driving the vehicle themselves.

Non-Surgical Treatments

PRP (platelet Rich Plasma)

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a procedure in which patient’s own blood that contains blood plasma and platelets is used to stimulate and nourish the hair follicles which in-turn promotes hair growth. The highly concentrated plasma separated from the blood contains platelets that release growth factors; these growth factors generate new hair whilst improving the density and health of your existing hair.

PRP has been used as a hair treatment for hair thinning in male pattern hair loss and female pattern hair loss for over 10 years and is growing in popularity.

PRP results may vary from person to person. Research has shown that a wide range of people have responded well to treatment and are able to notice results within a few months. The best results are seen in those who are in the early stages of hair loss. PRP is suitable for men and women equally but the best results are often seen in those with androgenic alopecia. Medications are often recommended to enhance the results of hair regeneration following the treatment. PRP procedure usually takes 30-40 minutes. It starts by taking blood sample from the patient by a clinician, collected sample is then placed in a centrifuge machine which spins the blood to separate out the red blood cells and blood plasma.
